GENESIS 4 CAIN AND ABEL

Our efforts in Christ is not in vain.

GENESIS 4     CAIN & ABEL

1 .How many children were born to Adam and Eve?

Ans:  Scripture doesn’t tell us how many children were born to Adam and Eve.  But considering their long life spans (Adam lived for 930 years—Gen.  5:5), it would seem logical to suggest there were many. Remember, they were commanded to “be fruitful, and multiply” (Gen. 1:28)].

2Names of the sons of Adam and Eve specially mentioned in the Bible

.Ans:  Cain Abel and Seth (4:1, 2).

3. What were the occupation of Cain and Abel?

Ans: Ans:  Cain (Gen.  4:2) Abel a keeper of sheep, Cain a tiller of the ground (4:2)

.5. What is the way of Cain?

Ans:  He had no faith, he came on his own.

6How Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain?

Ans:  Cain offered some fruits, but Abel by faith offered the fat portions of                                      the firstborn. (Heb. 11:4).

7Who was the first man to commit murder?

      Ans:  Cain.

8. Whom did Cain kill?

Ans:   Cain killed his younger brother Abel (4:8)

9Why Cain killed his brother?

Ans:  Abel offered a worship that is pleas able and acceptable to God, but Cain’s offering was not accepted by God, thus because of jealousy Cain killed his younger brother Abel.

10.   What was Cain’s question back to God when God asked where Abel was? (4:9) or what was the first question any human being asks in the Bible.

Ans:  "Am I my brother's keeper? (Gen. 4:9).

11.   "What was the mark that God put on Cain (Genesis 4:15)?"

Ans:  Bible does not mention the exact nature of the mark, but God protected Cain (4: 15).

12.  When Cain went out of the Lord’s presence, where he went to live in ?

 Ans:  Nod.

13.  Where did Cain get his wife?

Ans:  No doubt Cain's wife was a descendant of Adam and Eve. (4:1-5:5). [All human beings are descendants of one man, “the first man”” of “one blood.”- Adam and one woman - Eve (1 Cor. 15:45) “…she was the mother of all living” (Gen. 3:20). Even though only three males, (Cain (4:1), Abel (4:2) and Seth (4:25) are mentioned by name, they   had a number of male and female children. In Genesis 5:4-5; 6:1 we read: "…. and he begat sons and daughters: and all the days that Adam lived were 930 years: and he died".  Cain went into the land of Nod where enough people already lived to build a city. Thus, Cain's wife was a descendant of Adam and Eve. (4:1-5:5).

14.  Cain married his close relation. Was it allowed?

Yes, The first parents were commanded to multiply and replenish the earth …..” (Gen. 1:26-28). Later only the law forbidding marriage between close relatives was not given until the time of Moses (Lev.  18-20)].

15.  What was the name of the son of Cain?

Ans: Enoch (Gen. 4:17).

16.  Who is known as the father of all who play the harp? (4:21)

   Ans:  Jubal.

17.  What was the name of the son of Adam and Eve who was given to replace Abel?

  Ans:  Seth (Gen.  4:25-26).

18.  What is the meaning of the name Seth?

Ans:  Seth, which means “set in place of” (Gen. 4:25).

19.  Preserving the ‘seed’ of Seth is very important! Why?

Ans:  It was through seed of Seth that the promise of God “Offspring of the Woman” came who would crush the serpent’s head (Gen.  3:15).

20.  Name the son of Seth.

   Ans:   Enosh (Gen.  4:26)

21.  After the birth of Seth’s son Enosh, men began to do the important religious thing, what was that?

Ans: “At that time men began to call on the name of the Lord” (Gen.  4:26)

22.  What does I John 3:12 teach us about Cain’s motives?

Ans:  Cain belonged to Satan, the evil one.

23.  "Whom was Cain afraid of after he killed Abel?"

Ans:  The Bible does not reveal exactly how many children Adam and Eve produced. From Genesis 5:4 we understand that Adam and Eve had many children other than Cain, Abel and Seth, whose names are not mentioned in the Scripture, (only main characters are recorded). Adam lived 930 years, and he had enough time to take full advantage of God's command to “procreate and fill the earth”.  The fact that Cain had a wife (Gen. 4:17) is further evidence that Adam and Eve had other children after Cain and Abel. So Cain was afraid of his own brothers and sisters.

 24.  Who was the first breaker of the law, “one man one wife”?                                                                     (i.e. polygamist marriage

    Ans: Lamech (Gen. 4:19).

25.  Who were the two wives of Lamech?

Ans:  Zillah and Adah (Gen.  4:23-24).
