GENESIS 28                                                                          JACOB MEETS GOD


1.  What charge did   Isaac give his son Jacob of taking a wife for him? (Gen. 28: 1,2).

Ans:   "You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan”.


2.  For taking a wife for Jacob, what instructions Isaac gave to his son Jacob?

Ans:  Go to Padan Aram, to the house of Bethuel, and take a wife for him from the daughters of Laban (Gen. 28: 1-2). (Bethuel was the son of Nahor and Milcah, andalso he the father of  Laban and Rebekah)


3.   What blessing did Isaac pronounce on Jacob (v 3, 4)? 

 Ans: "May God Almighty bless you, And make you fruitful and multiply you,  That you may be an assembly of peoples; 4 And give you the blessing of Abraham, To you and your descendants with you, That you may inherit the land In which you are a stranger, Which God gave to Abraham."


4.  At Bethel, what did Jacob dream? (Gen. 28: 12).

 Ans:   A ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. Behold, the Lord stood above it …”


5.   Which are the two most significant and life changing events in the life of Jacob?                   

Ans:  The first was this dream at Bethel when he was fleeing from the land of Canaan, (Gen. 28:10-22).The other was by the river Jabbok ( Peniel), Jacob wrestles with God (Gen. 32:24-30).


6. Can we see this dream of Jacob's as highly symbolic? How? 

   Ans:  Ladder is representing the Mediator, Jesus Christ. Paul says, "… we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ….”   (Rom.  5:1-2). “He is   ‘the Ladder’ who came to earth, from the line of Jacob, through the provisions of God, and redeemed us so that we may live in heaven for eternity”.


7.   What did Jacob vow at Bethel?  (Gen. 28: 20-22).

  Ans:   he prayed that, “…I will surely give a tenth to you." If God bless and brought me back in peace.


8.     What name did Jacob call the ‘certain place’ where he had spent the night? (Gen.28:19) 

Ans:   Bethel.


9.  What does Bethel mean?                                           

Ans:  House of God.


10.  What was the earlier name of Bethel? (v.19)

Ans:   Luz.


11.  Tell the life span of Abraham?                                   

 Ans:   175 years.


12.  Give the life span of Isaac.  

Ans:   180 years.13.  Give the life span of Jacob .                                                                                                                  

Ans:   147 years.


14.  Give the life span of Joseph                                          

Ans:   Joseph died at 110.

15.  Two Genesis patriarchs are known to have paid tithing.  Who was the first?                                

Ans:  Abraham.


16.  Who was the second?                                                                                

Ans: Jacob.
