GENESIS 39 JOSEPH IN POTIPHAR'S HOUSE, & AND A SLAVE IN EGYPT


GENESIS 39                   TRUST GOD EVEN IN THE MOST DIFFICULT TIMES


1.       Who bought Joseph from the Ishmaelites?(Gen.39: 1)

  Ans:   Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, an Egyptian.


2.       What his master observed with Joseph? (Gen. 39: 3)

Ans: His master observed that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.


 3.       To what position did Potiphar appoint Joseph? (4-5)

Ans: Potiphar made him overseer of his house, and that entire he had he put  under his authority.


 4.       What did God do to Potiphar’s house because of Joseph? (Gen. 39: 5-6)

Ans: “The Lord blessed the Egyptian's [Potiphar's] house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field”.


 5.       Who tempted Joseph? (Gen. 39: 7)

Ans: Potiphar’s wife.


 6.       What did Potiphar’s wife want Joseph to do? (Gen. 39: 7, 10-12)

Ans: She wanted to have sex with Joseph. ["Lie with her."]


 7.       What was Joseph’s response? (Gen. 39: 8-9)

 Ans:  Joseph refused to have sex with Potiphar’s wife. “There is no one greater in this                  house than I, How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?"


 8.       What did Joseph do when Potiphar’s wife caught him by his garment? (Gen.39: 12)

Ans: ”Resisted the temptation; he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside”.


 9.       Joseph falsely accused of? (Gen. 39: 14)

Ans: Attempted rape.


 10.   What Potiphar’s wife told the men of her house? (Gen.39: 15)

 Ans: “It happened, when he heard that I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me, and fled and went outside.”


 11.   What did Potiphar’s wife do with Joseph’s garment? (Gen.39: 13-16)

 Ans: So she kept his garment with her until his master came home.


 12.   When Joseph’s master came home, what did his wife tell him?(Gen.  39: 17-18)

 Ans: “The Hebrew servant whom you brought to us came to me to mock me; so it happened, as I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me and fled outside.”


 13.   What did Potiphar do with Joseph after his wife had lied about Joseph? (Gen.39: 20)

 Ans: Then Potiphar's anger was aroused against Joseph; he took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.


 14.   What responsibility did the keeper of the prison give to Joseph?(Gen. 39: 21-23)

  Ans: In charge of all the prisoners.


 15.   Finally, what the story of Joseph teaches us?

 Ans: Jesus said those who are faithful in small things can be trusted with large things                  (Luke 16: 10).
