GENESIS 26 THE STORY OF ISAAC

4. To avoid
death, what falsehood did Isaac tell to the men of Gerar?

Ans:Isaac
lied about Rebekah, he said “She is my sister”.
5. When the men of the place asked about his
wife, why did
Isaac lie about Rebekah? (Gen. 26:7)
Ans: He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife,” thinking “The men
of the place might kill me on account of Rebekah, for she is
beautiful”.
6. How did Abimelech learn that Rebekah
was Isaac’s wife? (Gen. 26:8)
Ans: Abimelech saw
that Isaac, showing endearment to Rebekah his wife.

well Esek, (because they contended with him

The 2nd well he called its name Sitnah.
(They argued over that
v.21),
The 3rd well he called it Rehoboth.
(“For now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the
land” v.22).
14. From Gerar, Isaac went to what city? (Gen.
26:23)
Ans: Beersheba.
15. Isaac did three things at Beersheba
besides pitching his tent. What were they? (Gen.26:25)
Ans: Isaac built an altar there, and called on the name of the Lord,
he pitched his tent there; and there his servants dug a well.
16. What happened there at Beersheba?
(vv 23-25)
Ans: the
same night Yahweh appeared to Isaac (v.24).
17. What He said?
Ans: Abrahamic
covenant confirmed in Isaac and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed
for my servant Abraham’s sake.”
18. What else do we know about the place Beersheba?
Ans: Hagar wandered in the
wilderness of Beersheba. (Gen. 21:14)
Abimelech and Abrahammade a treaty
at Beer-Sheba (Gen. 21:31).
Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in
Beer-Sheba(Gen.21:33).Isaac and Abraham stayed in Beersheba (Gen. 22: 19).
19. The Lord appeared to Isaac at
Beersheba. What he did there? (Gen.26:25).
Ans: He
built an altar there, and called on the name of Yahweh, and pitched his tent
there. There Isaac’s servants dug a well.
20. Who desired to make a pact with Isaac? (Gen.
26:.26).
Ans: King Abimelech, his friend Ahuzzath, and the commander
of his army, Phichol.
21. What, they testified about
Isaac. (26:23-31)
Ans: They said, "We have certainly
seen that the Lord is with you (v.28).
22. Why was Beersheba given that name? (Gen.
26:33).
Ans: Isaac’s servants …, said to him, “We have found water.” So he called it
Shebah. Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba.
23. How long
Isaac lived? (Gen. 35: 28)
Ans: Isaac lived for 180
years.
