GENESIS 3 THE FALL OF MAN
1. Who were the first man and woman?
Ans: Adam and Eve (Gen. 3:20). [All people are descended from Adam (Acts 17:26), Adam is
called ‘the first man’ (1 Cor. 15:45).Eve was so named because she was ‘the
mother of all living’ (Gen. 3:20)].
2. What does Adam mean?
Ans: Red/Ruddy – a reference to the color of the soil that Adam was created from. (Adam was made from “adamah”, which means soil / earth / clay /ground and has a root word “dam” which means blood, hence the red).
3. How the
First Woman, Eve was made?
Ans: She was made from Adam’s side (Gen. 2:21–24).
4. What does Eve mean?
Ans: “Life-giver”; “the
mother of all living”. In Genesis 3:20 we read, “Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of
all living.”.
5. What is the first question in the
Bible? (Gen. 3:1)
Ans: Yea, hath God said,
ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden”? “Now the serpent was more subtle
than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the
woman, Yea, hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden”?
6. What is the last question of the
Bible?
Ans: The last question in
the Bible is found at Revelation 18:17, 18,What city is like the great city? ‘Because in one hour such great riches have
been devastated!' "…Cried out as they looked at the smoke from the
burning of her and said, 'What city is like the great city?"
7. Why did Satan tempt Eve?
Ans: Satan wanted Eve and Adam to have a separation
from God.
8.What motivated Satan and what profit was there for him?
Ans: He was and is envious of God. Profit - He takes pleasure in their disobedience while God delights in their obedience.
8.What motivated Satan and what profit was there for him?
Ans: He was and is envious of God. Profit - He takes pleasure in their disobedience while God delights in their obedience.
9. What is sin?
Ans: Sin is missing the mark, it is the
transgression of the law of God, and it is doing things your way instead of
God’s way (I John. 3:4).
10. How sin enter the world?
Ans: Through the disobedience of Adam and Eve (Gen. 3; Rom 5:14).11. In what three ways did the fruit appeal to Eve? (Gen. 3:6)Ans: the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom. In Genesis 2:25 we read, “Now both of them were naked (arom), the man and his wife, but they felt no shame before each other”. But after sin, Genesis 3:7 says, “Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realized that they were naked “(Gen.3:7)
11. How? Why?
Ans: Before the fall, “They were not ashamed because of the glory with which they were clothed. It was when this glory was stripped from them after they had transgressed the commandment that they were ashamed because they were naked. (St. Ephraim, Commentary on Genesis). After the fall in Genesis 3:7-11, Sin has stripped Adam and Eve of their covering of grace and divine son-ship, and they are spiritually naked.
12. After
the fall, what
attempt did they make to "cover" their loss of innocence? (Gen. 3:7)
Ans: They attempted to cover themselves. “And they sewed fig leaves together
and made themselves aprons”.
13. What excuse did Adam give for hiding when he heard God’s voice? (Gen. 3: 9-10)
Ans: Naked / Afraid
THE
FIVE FOLDED JUDGMENT UPON SIN
14. (i)
How the serpent was judged for deceiving Eve?
Ans: By the word of God as stated in Gen. 3:14. “So the Lord God said to the serpent: "…. you are cursed more than all cattle, ….. and you shall eat dust all the days of your life” (Gen. 3:14).
15. How the Satan was judged?
Ans: By the word of God as stated in Gen. 3:15. “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your
seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel".
16. What was God’s judgment upon
woman? (Gen. 3:16)
Ans: Suffering in childbirth and Subordination to
man. “To the woman He said: "I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your
conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for
your husband, And he shall rule over you."
(Gen. 3:16)
17. What was God’s judgment upon nature?
Ans: As
found in Gen. 3:17 & 18. "Cursed is the ground for your sake;
….. Both thorns and thistles it shall
bring forth for you.”.
18. (v) What was God’s judgment on man? (Gen. 3:19)
Ans: Wearisome toil, as stated in
Gen. 3;19 “Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of
your wife, and have eaten, In
the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, For
out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return."
19. Which is the first Messianic prophecy in the Bible? ( Gen. 3:15)
Ans: (a) “And I will put enmity between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel". [God’s redemptive work! Here is a prophecy of Christ's crucifixion and His destruction of Satan. Jesus came to destroy the work of Satan (1 Jn. 3:8). His sacrificial death and resurrection has defeated Satan].
(b) In Gen. 3:21 we read, “And for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them”. What this foreshadows? To cover the shame of Adam and Eve there required the death of an animal. This act of God was an “atonement”, foreshadowing of the Messiah’s death who would cover the sin of humanity.
20. How was God’s first promise of a Savior fulfilled?
Ans: Jesus conquered the Satan’s power through His
death (sacrifice) and resurrection (John 12:31; Colossian 2:15).
21. What are the consequences of sin of (1st) Adam and Eve?
Ans: Adam’s sin and its
consequences are many. The Bible says that “the wages of sin is death” (Gen. 2:17; Rom. 6:23). (This not only refers to physical death, but spiritual death, i.e. eternal
separation from God and cast into hell) shame /nakedness (Gen. 3: 7),
guilt (3: 8), 'multiplied pain' (3: 16)
‘rule’ over (3:16), 'curse'
‘pain’ (3:17) , to 'work, sweat (3:19), sword (3:24) (Gen.3:17-19,23)
In the N.T, Paul connects the sinful situation of all humanity with the fault of Adam. "Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, so death spread to all men because all men sinned" (Rom 5:12) "One man's trespass led to condemnation for all men" (Rom 5:18), "By one man's disobedience all became sinners" (Rom 5:19).
22. "So He drove out the man; and he placed …..(Gen. 3:24).Why God placed Cherubim and flaming
sword to guard?
Ans:
God
did not want man to eat of the Tree of Life and live forever, so He guarded it
from them. This banishment can be an act of mercy. God is here saying that if
Adam and Eve eat from the tree of life, they will become immortally fixed in a
fallen state. To prevent that tragedy, God banishes them from the presence of
Eden, and puts into motion his plan for Redemption.
23. What four questions does
God ask Adam and Eve?
Ans: (i) "Where are you?"
(Gen 3:9)(ii)
"Who told you that you were naked?" (Gen 3:11)(iii)
"Have you been eating from the forbidden tree?" (Gen 3:13)(iv)
"Why did you do that? (Gen 3:13).
24. Give the other references of the Bible mention The Tree of Life?
Ans: Ezekiel 47:12 (NASB) and Revelation 22: 1-2.
Please
Note: The Tree of Life reappears
again during the millennial and eternal age. The trees whose ‘fruit will be for food and their leaves for healing’.
