THE INTERCESSION OF ABRAHAM
1.Who came to visit Abraham at Mamre? (Gen.
18).
Ans: Three Divine visitors (The Lord and two
angels)
2.What Abraham did for them?
Ans:
Abraham entertained the angels (18: 1-15).
3.What good news did they bring to
Abraham?
Ans: Sarah would give birth to a son (18:9-15).
4.What did the Lord know Abraham would do? (Gen. 18:19) Ans: “Abraham will command his children and his
household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and
judgment; …”
5.What prayer did Abraham make to God?
Ans: Abraham interceded for Sodom, that God would
not destroy the city of Sodom (18: 23-33).
6.What the Lord said about the Sins of
Sodom and Gomorrah (18:20-21)
Ans: "Then the LORD said, 'The outcry against
Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down
and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If
not, I will know."
7.Who stayed behind to talk with
Abraham? (18:22) Ans: The Lord.
8.Was the Lord angry with Abraham?
Ans: No. Not at all. Abraham is the apple of his
eye. Genesis 15:6 explains,
"Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him as
righteousness."
9.What we learn from Abraham's
Intercession?
Ans: We can see four lessons here:
(a) Boldness or confidence before God is
necessary (Eph. 2:18; 3:12; Heb. 4:16; 10:19).
(b)
Humility. Abraham remains respectful of God and cognizant of his own
inferiority at the same time that he petitions boldly.
(c) Yahweh's character and word are the basis
of the appeal.
(d) Persistence in prayer continues until the
answer is received.
10. Regarding Sodom, finally what God
promise to Abraham?
Ans: God promised him that for ten righteous
person’s sake He will not destroy
the city
(18:23-33).
11. In the New Testament what Jude
declares about the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah?
Ans: "...Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding
towns gave themselves up to sexual
immorality and perversion” Please Note:
